BENCH 35 FALKIRK
This is a fabulously ornate casting originating from the famous Carron Foundry in Falkirk and made in 1885. It is stamped 21950 and is a variation on pattern no. 14. The supports have interlaced strapwork separating the frame and decorative panel, classical spirals and acanthus foliage offering a mixture of Greek and Roman ornament and exuberance, distinct from the more naturalistic forms of the earlier two decades of Victorian garden art.
The cast iron frames are in perfect condition with no repair, damage or loss. Once British Benches bought them, they were rubbed down, cleaned and painted two further coats of Moss Green RAL 6005 metal paint. The seating slats are made from 60 year old English Oak, planed and routed to give a slight edge chamfer. They have been primed and painted Moss Green also. They are fixed with stainless steel carriage bolts. A central back strap has been added for further rigidity. This particular bench is a wonderful example of Victorian design and if looked after will last for decades to come. It is very comfortable, sturdy, and a great statement in your garden and sound investment.
