BENCH 101 GRETTON
In the late Victorian period naturalistic style of benches used in parks and railway stations were growing in popularity and aesthetic appeal. The Faux Bois bench as shown here, a Rustic evolution of the Coalbrookdale pattern referred to as the Whitworth, became a common sight in public places as foundries began to produce cast iron pieces that were not only functional but decorated made to look like natural tree branches. It is 7’ long and would make a great architectural statement in any garden setting. The substantial bench leg supports enhanced with scrolled armrests and Lion's Paw feet have been prepared and painted two coats of black satin paint. The bench is extremely heavy and to complement its character we fitted it with 30mm solid European oak slats finished with Danish oil and fixed with M10 stainless steel carriage bolts. This is a wonderful piece of garden art and a good investment as these antique cast iron designs are few and far between.
