A late Victorian or possibly early Edwardian ornate cast iron bench. The design was inspired by the Art Nouveau movement. The supports have curved spiral scrolls that sweep up in elegant arcs to the backrest, giving a flowing organic appearance. The central volute offers decoration and stability. The bamboo or reeded details on the legs add to the stylish, botanical treatment. This interlaced pattern reinforces the frame but also adds to the visual lightness of the bench. It is antique quality cast iron yet light enough to move around. We used European Oak for the seating slats, fixed with black stainless steel bolts and finished with three coats of Danish Oil. It would look great on any garden terrace but equally distinctive in a hallway or conservatory. This is a graceful and rare example of late C19th cast iron bench furniture.
