BENCH 65 TELFORD
A Rare Example
A stunning Coalbrookdale cast iron bench, almost 6' long, with centre support manufactured in the late C19th. It has a foundry stamp No.14 as shown. It has been previously powder coated anthracite grey. The finish is in great condition so we kept it. The new hardwood seating is made from 50-year-old, 28mm solid oak slats finished with three coats of Danish oil and fixed with black stainless steel carriage bolts. This is a rare example from the Coalbrookdale foundry. It is an extremely comfortable and great looking bench that would also be a good investment for the future.
Provenance. ‘The vendor's late father was a member of Bridgnorth bowling club just a few miles from Ironbridge where Coalbrookdale were based and in the 1960’s the club updated their facilities and replaced their cast iron benches with more modern ones. He said:- "Our father kept the bench for over sixty years and he always referred to the bench as 'The Coalbrookdale' and that’s why we held onto it for so long'
